Peter Nunes recently had the good fortune to find and resurrect one of these somewhat rare timepieces (circa 1853), which had been stored in a dismantled and scattered state since 1964. While not overly difficult, the extensive restoration shown in this presentation was quite involved and interesting, and the accompanying research provided a window into the interesting and sometimes difficult life of one of America's most remarkable, quirky, and inventive clockmakers. Peter has been a member of the NAWCC since 1971, and has published two articles in the Bulletin. He is Past President of Chapter 8, current Chairman of Cog Counters, and is a Vice President of the American Clock & Watch Museum. Peter's primary horological interest is in wooden movement American clocks and their makers. 10:30 AM. "My 10 Favorite Tools." Steve Sanborn will give the audience a view of his ten favorite tools, plus his comments on special materials and practices he uses. Also, Steve will demonstrate special jigs and tool adaptations that he has made from simple types of emery buffs, to pliers, to bushing tools, to the use of a crow's foot, to burnishing tools will be some of the items covered. He will end his program with a slide presentation of some of the "horror" type of repairs he has encountered in his shop. After obtaining a business degree and working in the banking sector for a number of years, Steve and his wife opened a clock restoration service in Sunapee, NH. He has been active in the NAWCC since 1959, and was named an Old Timer in 2001. Also, he was past President of Chapter 8 from 1993 to 1995. 12:00 Noon. Luncheon 12:45 PM. "Building a Vienna Regulator -- a personalized Approach." Michael Yawitch's presentation is a follow-on to his presentation at last year's Willard House Workshop of his partially-completed clock. Michael is a structural engineer in MA, and began his first interest in precision metal work in 1980. He commenced clockmaking as a hobby in 1992 and, to date, has made two skeleton clocks, a long case clock and this Vienna regulator.
