9:00 AM. “Internet Use for NAWCC Website Tools." Tom McIntyre’s workshop will focus on using the resources provided by the NAWCC to members and the public over the Internet. The workshop consists of a demonstration and live hands-on use of Internet resources by the members of the audience. Some computers will be provided for Internet access and attendees are encouraged to bring along laptop computers or other portable computers if they have them available. All attendees will need an email address on file with the NAWCC to participate interactively. Tom has been serving on the Board of Directors since being elected 2nd VP in 2003. Following the reorganization of the NAWCC, he was elected Director in 2005 and was appointed Director and elected Treasurer in 2009.
10:30 AM. “Unraveling the History of Wood Movement Shelf Clock Making in the Villages of Farmington and Unionville, Conn.” Mary Jane Dapkus’ accidental discovery of documents ten years ago began the research that forms the basis for this talk, which is also the subject of a 3-part article being co-authored for a future NAWCC Bulletin by the speaker and Snowden Taylor. The talk will highlight the adventures and misadventures of clockmaking firms’ personnel including George Marsh & Co., Seymour, Williams & Porter, and Williams, Orton & Prestons & Co., their business affairs in Connecticut. as well as in the American South and West, and their backing by wealthy financiers. Mary Jane has a background in science and American history, and has worked in various professions involving forensic and environmental analysis, before serving for two years as curator of the American Clock & Watch Museum in Bristol, CT. She is an avid collector, home orchardist, and independent historical researcher.

12:45 PM, Luncheon Program. “A Giant Comes Home Moving a Seth Thomas 4-Dial Street Clock from Virginia to Connecticut.” Peter Nunes, well known to our chapter, will give a presentation about this effort. In June, 2010 three intrepid Chapter 8 members traveled south to retrieve a c. 1904 Seth Thomas cast iron street clock that had been generously donated to the American Clock & Watch Museum. With slides and commentary, Peter Nunes will illustrate the interesting process of disassembly and transport of this monumental timepiece, as well as discuss the research that went into the project before it began. Peter has been a member of the NAWCC since 1971, and has published two articles in the Bulletin. He is Past President of Chapter 8, current Chairman of Cog Counters, and is a Director of the American Clock & Watch Museum. His primary horological interest is in wood movement American clocks and their makers

Directions:
From the East or West: Mass Turnpike (I-90), take Exit 10, then stay to the right after exiting the toll plaza and to Southbridge St. (Route 12) going south. The Elks Club is about 0.6 mile on the right.
From the North: follow Route 290 to Exit 6, then to Route 20 West. Follow Route 20 to the 4th set of lights (Route 12 intersection). Turn right (north) on to Route 12. The Elk Club is about 0.3 mile on the left. Note: the exit for Route 20 West off of Route 290 is the very first exit after the Mass Turnpike. The exit comes up quickly, so be aware of this situation.
From the South: follow Route 395 (becomes Route 290 in Auburn) and take Exit 6 for Route 20 West. Proceed to the 4th set of lights (the junction of Routes 12 and 20) and turn right on to Route 12 North. The Elks Club is about 0.3 mile on the left.
