New England Chapter No. 8 NAWCC

Bi-annual Educational Symposium
Saturday, September 25, 2010

Old Sturbridge Village

1 Old Southbridge Village Road, Sturbridge, MA 01566
(800-733-1830)

Conference Center

We have chosen Old Sturbridge Village as the meeting location for this event, due to the continuing popularity of this historical facility with the membership.

We encourage you to attend this symposium, because this year's theme links directly into the mass production of both watches and clocks

The theme for this symposium is, "Why Waltham?"   We have invited four very knowledgeable speakers who will put into context the New England evolution of horology, the specific importance of Waltham for this overall endeavor, and how machinery was developed to meet the challenges of the Industrial Age.

  • Robert Cheney, New England Horology from a Craft to an Industry
  • Andrew Dervan, The Waltham Horological Hall of Fame
  • George Collord, Inventors, Machines, Standards, and Industrial Innovation
  • Albert Arena, Waltham Then and Now, Why the Industrial Revolution Began in Waltham

Due to the multi-disciplinary nature of this Symposium, that is, horology, tools, geographic location and mass production methods, we strongly encourage you to invite a guest that may be outside of the direct horological interests of our chapter.  Support this symposium with your presence.
