PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

I hope everyone had a great holiday season and best wishes to all for the New Year. I think this will be an outstanding year for our chapter.
Our November meeting at the Auburn Elks Lodge, a new location for us, was quite successful. The facility allowed the workshops to be on their lower level, which matched any of the hotel locations. The mart was held in the dining area and this worked well as mart exhibitors tend to break down their setups well before lunch. As we are not renting a hotel exhibit room, we were able to pass on a substantial reduction in mart fees to exhibitors. The lunch quality far exceeded any of our hotel locations. We will be meeting again at the Auburn Elks. Additionally, I should mention that the location is quite convenient.
We are fortunate to have a series of most interesting presentations lined up by Peter Nunes for this meeting. I believe this is one of the key reasons for not changing our meeting format. On a separate matter, we were able to book the Sturbridge location for our October meeting – a fine opportunity to view fall foliage.

"Waltham 14-Size Watches" - Don Dawes will give a slide presentation that traces the American Waltham Watch Company production of different models of watches in 14-size for more than 30 years starting about 1870. The export models ranged in grades having 7-11 jewels up to a limited number of chronographs. Don's extensive watch experience encompasses fine Swiss chronometers, chronographs, repeaters and perpetual calendars. He is especially interested in Waltham watches, they being of high quality and local product of great diversity. In recent years, Don has become interested in writing about his experiences in horology. His ability as a researcher and editor, perhaps, is best illustrated by his publication of A Complete History of Watch and Clock Making in America by Charles Crossman. Don is a graduate electrical engineer who specialized in design for reliable products in a career that spanned 45 years. |

"Wooden Works Repairs and Wheel Cutting Workshop" - George Bruno and Dr. David Follett will give a shared hands-on session structured so as to give attendees the chance to move freely between the two presenters. George will give the repairs portion and David will do the wheel cutting portion. All attendees will receive a wooden gear made during the workshop. wood movements. Since then, he has produced series of detailed drawings and plans (available for purchase) for wood movements. George has given 57 talks on wooden movements and manufacturing to different groups. He joined NAWCC in 1965. George trained as a machinist and toolmaker, and has recreated machinery used to manufacture wooden movements. Dave has been involved with clock collecting and research more than 40 years, is a life member of NAWCC, a former member of the board at ACWM in Bristol, and spends a lot of time at the bench doing both case and movement restoration. David has his Ph.D. in physics and is a radiation oncologist. |

Luncheon Program:
"The Second Wave of Innovation in the American Clock Industry: 1830-1850" - Tom Grimshaw will describe the influence of E.C. Brewster, Elias Ingraham, and Chauncey Jerome on Connecticut clock design and manufacturing. Tom needs no introduction as his knowledge and expertise is well known to us. Tom has been a member of NAWCC since 1971, author of several Bulletin articles, former president of American Clock and Watch Museum, made over 50 presentations to NAWCC groups, and is longtime clock and watch collector and researcher. He is a retired hospital administrator, currently a management consultant.

Fill out a slip at the table with your minimum price you will accept for the item. Members can then write in their bids during the course of the auction.
The cost to you as a seller is only $3.00 PER ITEM. The charge is payable in advance and applies whether item sells or not (multiple items for one bid count as one item).

At at the auction table you can buy a ticket for the 50-50 raffle.
