ANNUAL CHAPTER 8 WILBRAHAM PICNIC
Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Wilbraham, MA 9AM, SUNDAY, AUGUST 26, 2007
Highlights by Lester Tyrala
The August 26th Chapter 8 meeting, our annual picnic, was held at the Wilbraham and Monson Academy, Wilbraham, MA. About 60 members and guests attended, and the chapter president, Larry Chelmow, made the introductions. In keeping with the informal nature of this meeting, only one scheduled presentation was made.
The day's activities started with the Tailgate Mart that the threatening weather did not disrupt (to have been moved indoors in case of rain). Following this activity, a Show & Tell session was held with the theme of clocks and movements made in Ansonia, Connecticut. A number of interesting items were presented such as a nicely preserved iron-front from an Ansonia shelf clock and an original Ansonia wooden shipping box for an alarm clock.
Prior to the lunch, a presentation was made by Wilbraham’s own Jeff Wood on Phelps and Bartholomew, a little-known but important Ansonia, CT maker. During the 1880s, this company was a major supplier of movements found in Kroeber clocks. This presentation was followed by a raffle of horological door prizes, then a barbeque picnic lunch. For those interested, the meeting concluded with a tour of the clock tower lead by Jeff Wood.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Hope that everyone is enjoying the summer. Our June meeting, with a great set of presentations, a fine selection of mart items, and an interesting silent auction was enjoyed by all who attended.
I'm looking forward to a great picnic. It's a good opportunity for everyone to bring those items that they have been wanting to sell at a regular meeting but never got around to doing so. The Ansonia, CT, presentation should be interesting, particularly if we bring in interesting CT-manufactured items to enhance the presentation.
I will update everyone as progress is made in finding new meeting venues. Looking forward to seeing you at the picnic.
- - Lany Chelmow
SILENT AUCTION: the silent auction will not be held for the picnic.
