New England Chapter No. 8 NAWCC

Outdoor Picnic and Tailgate Mart

SATURDAY, AUGUST 4, 2001

Highlights by Richard Trepp

The August 4th mid summer meeting, an informal outdoor tailgate affair at the Bowen House in Woodstock Ct., brought out 70 cars and approximately 100 members and guests. About half of the vehicles had a variety of items to offer in an informal mart style.

There appeared to be plenty of action despite the heavy rainfall during most of the morning. (After weeks of drought in this area, the rain was almost welcomed by the members!) There were tours of the historic Bowen House available, and numerous informal gatherings and picnics could be noted.

Outdoor Picnic and Tailgate Mart

SATURDAY, AUGUST 4, 2001
8:30 A.M. - 2 P.M.

BOWEN HOUSE, WOODSTOCK, CONNECTICUT

We are returning to beautiful Bowen House for our August outdoor meeting. This property of the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities (SPNEA), has a bright pink Gothic-revival exterior standing in contrast to the Colonial character of the historic New England village. Designed in 1846 as a summer residence, it retains its original furnishings and several surrounding structures including a barn, icehouse, dovecote and garden house. There are also beautifully maintained lawns and garden. See pictures from last year's Summer Picnic Meeting.

We will be parking our cars on the grounds for a morning of swapping and socializing. SPNEA is providing special guided tours of the house and its original furnishings.

This is a "BYO" meeting; bring your own refreshments, tables, and chairs along with horological treasures to sell. Rain or shine.
