Directions to get there: In Massachusetts take Mass. Turnpike (I-90) to exit 9 to route 20 west through the lights to the Sturbridge Hotel on the right. From Connecticut and New York City: -I-84 east to route 20 west. From Rhode Island, Route 146 to route 20 west. As you may have already noticed, we are varying the meeting schedule somewhat as a result of last year's survey. We will have, though, a quick annual meeting at lunch to review the state of our chapter - only a few minutes ( I promise ). I would like to take this opportunity to urge everyone to read our National President's message in the December 1999 Bulletin. I think it describes our situation with volunteers very well. Needless to say, our New Englend Chapter still needs volunteers. The tasks are varied and run the range of assignments from helping to run a chapter meeting; planning an event; giving a presentation; etc. Please call me ( 781 - 828 - 1626 ) or see a chapter officer officer at the meeting if you are interested. Speaker Biographies at today's meeting: John Reardon, began his Horological studies as a Curatorial Assistant at The American Clock and Watch Museum in Bristol and as an intern at The Willard House and Clock Museum in Grafton. He completed a degree from Providence College and Oxford University. Fresh from the record breaking sale of rare pieces from the Rockford, Illinois Time Museum. John will present slides and comments on clocks we'll never see on our Mart tables. His lecture may highlight some of the complicated timepieces made in the last four centuries and the technical and decorative forces that materialized their production. Dick Trepp and Larry Smith, long-time Chapter 8 members and very close friends, with a joint total of 60 years of clock collecting and repairing experience, will present tested ideas designed for repairers who don't have a shop full of costly equipment and supplies. Included in their demonstrations will be nail polish, flour, Omaha Steak boxes, toothpicks, Loctite, ice cube trays, dental tools, pipe cleaners, coat hangers, and simple techniques for basic repair jobs. Bring along you own "Tricks of the trade" to share, too.
